The Trials Line — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 3, 2026
The Trials Line ("we," "us," the "App") is a community app for trials cyclists to find nearby riders, mark riding spots, organize group rides, and message each other. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Operator / contact: The Trials Line LLC, thetrialslinesupport@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and a password (passwords are stored only as a salted hash by our authentication provider, never in plain text).
Profile information. Your display name, skill level, bike category, optional bio, an optional profile photo, and a general area (a city/region name plus an approximate center). At signup you enter your date of birth to confirm you are 13+ and to gate 18+ features such as direct messages; we store only the resulting age-band attestation (13+ / 18+), not your birthdate itself.
Approximate location only. If you choose "use my location," your device determines your position locally and we round it to a coarse, neighborhood- level point before it ever leaves your device. We do not collect or store your precise GPS location, and we do not track your location in the background.
Content you create. Riding spots (name, description, difficulty, approximate location, photos), group rides (title, approximate meeting point, time), RSVPs, spot ratings, and messages you send in group-ride chats and 1-on-1 direct messages. We also store reports you submit and content you block. A message you start but do not send is kept only as a draft on your own device so you can finish it later; unsent drafts are not uploaded to us.
Ride activity. If you use the Ride feature, we store the rides you log (date and duration), any written reflections you add ("what went well," a proud moment, what to work on), and the points, streaks, and weekly-goal and rest-day preferences derived from them. Ride tracking is a timer and journal only — it does not record your GPS location or route.
Notifications. If you allow notifications, we collect a device push token from Apple so we can send you the alerts you've enabled (for example, a new direct message, a newly created ride, or occasional announcements). You can turn notification types off in the App (Profile) or disable notifications entirely in your device settings, and you can remove the token by signing out.
Automatically collected. Basic technical data needed to operate the service (e.g., timestamps). We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
How we use information
- To create and operate your account and profile.
- To show riders, spots, and rides near a general area on the map.
- To enable group-ride chat and 18+ direct messaging.
- To run the Ride feature: logging your rides and reflections, computing your points and streaks, and — only if you opt in — showing you on the weekly leaderboard (see "How information is shared").
- To send the notifications you've enabled, using your device push token.
- To understand and improve the App using aggregate, de-identified usage statistics (for example, total counts of riders, spots, and rides). This never includes your birthdate and is not used to advertise to you.
- To keep the community safe: screening text you submit (names, bios, spots, listings, and messages) against a list of prohibited terms; automatically scanning photos you upload for explicit or unlawful content before they are shown to others; flagging suspected scam/abuse for review; enforcing blocks; and reviewing reports.
- To respond to support requests and comply with the law.
Automated moderation. Some safety steps happen automatically. Text may be blocked or flagged by a keyword filter, and images you upload are sent to our image-moderation provider (Google Cloud Vision) to be scanned for explicit or unlawful content. Images that fail are removed and not published; only a text record of the result (no image) is kept. These automated checks may occasionally be wrong; you can contact us if you believe content was handled in error.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that operate the App on our behalf: Supabase (database, file storage, and authentication), Google Cloud Vision (automated scanning of uploaded images for explicit/unlawful content), and Apple Push Notification service (delivering the notifications you enable). They process your information only to provide these services to us.
- Other users, for the parts of your profile and content you choose to share (display name, general area, skill, bio, photos, spots, rides, messages).
- The weekly leaderboard, only if you opt in. When you turn it on, your display name, level, and weekly points are shown to other riders on the board. It is off by default, and you can opt back out at any time in the App.
- Legal/safety, when required by law or to protect users from harm. This includes reporting apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or other authorities as required by law.
Children
The App is intended for users 13 and older. Direct (1-on-1) messaging is restricted to users 18 and older; users under 18 can use group-ride chats only. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Data retention and deletion
You can permanently delete your account and associated profile and content from within the App (Profile → Delete account). Deletion is immediate and irreversible. We retain limited records where required for legal, safety, or abuse-prevention purposes.
Security
We use industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, hashed passwords, row-level database security) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Your choices
- Edit or remove most profile information in the App at any time.
- Block other riders so they cannot see or contact you.
- Choose whether to appear on the weekly leaderboard (off by default).
- Control which notifications you receive in the App, or turn them off entirely in your device settings.
- Delete your account in the App.
- Contact us at thetrialslinesupport@gmail.com with any privacy request.
International users and data transfers
The App is available internationally. We are based in the United States, and our service providers may store and process your information in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the service providers' standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate (you can edit most of it in the App).
- Delete your account and information (Profile → Delete account, or contact us).
- Restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it.
- Data portability, where applicable.
To exercise any of these, email thetrialslinesupport@gmail.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
European Economic Area / United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR). Our legal bases for processing are: performing our contract with you (to operate your account and the App); your consent (e.g., for optional location and optional photos); our legitimate interests (to keep the community safe and prevent abuse); and compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell or "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. California residents may exercise the access and deletion rights described above.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide notice in the App.
